8 Injured in Bellevue High School Bus Accident

Comments Off

A bus transporting the Bellevue High school football team overturned on Friday in a four-vehicle accident on Interstate 5 south of Seattle, injuring eight people, according to Washington State Police.

The injured players and one car passenger received minor injuries and were transported to three area hospitals. The most serious injury was a minor concussion to one of the players, said State Patrol Trooper Cliff Pratt.

The accident allegedly happened when a vehicle lost a ladder on the highway, causing several vehicles to swerve and slam on the brakes.

The bus, transporting 38 people, collided with a semi-truck and two other vehicles, Pratt said. It overturned, but players and coaches were able to evacuate the bus through the emergency exits and windows.

The 12-0 Wolverines were headed to play the 9-3 Capital Cougars of Olympia in the state Class 3A football semifinals at the Tacoma Dome. The game was rescheduled for Monday night.

The bus struck the semi-truck, Bellevue assistant football coach Pat Jones told Seattle radio Station KOMO. The impact of the crash sent the bus up onto a hillside next the freeway where it overturned. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.
